Before Jay began attending Mid Florida Tech (MFT), he had never been employed. He attended high school and was an artist and musician during his free time. He attended a career fair at his high school and the presentation by the MFT representative, especially the information on scholarships, caught his attention.
Jay knew he wanted to go to school to be a graphic designer so he enrolled at MFT. The program, Digital Printing Technology, was the perfect program for Jay. It allowed him to learn through real experiences. He was given assignments on the Adobe program and as he got more experience he could get more proficient in all aspects of the program. Jay worked with the orange County Public School’s Print Shop located at MFT where he learned new techniques, setting up a color document, four color processes and the role of a freelance graphic artist.
Jay competed in SkillsUSA, winning 2nd place in the state competition. Future plans include continuing his education at a university or another tech center. For the moment “I am happy where I am”.
Jay’s advice for someone who might be considering attending the Digital Printing or any other program at MFT: if you are good at it and you get satisfaction from doing it, pursue it as a career because too many people live stressful lives, working only to make money.
