MISSION:
Our mission is to prepare students to develop qualified entry-level technicians for Toyota and Lexus dealer franchises known as the Toyota Technical Education Network "T-TEN Program."

DESCRIPTION:
The program includes classroom and hands-on instruction reinforced with high-tech computerized learning systems using specialized trainers, simulators and live vehicles. Toyota Motor Sales USA selected Mid Florida Tech to be part of their national Toyota Technical Education Network (T-TEN). This intense technical training program is provided in partnership with Toyota Motor Sales, USA; Southeast Toyota; and local Toyota dealers.

The instruction, course of study, facilities, and equipment of this institution have been evaluated by the National Automotive Service Technicians Education Foundation (N.A.T.E.F.) and meet the Automotive Service Excellence Standards of Quality (ASE) for training in the following areas: Engine Repair, Electrical Systems, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Heating and Air Conditioning, Manual Drive Train and Axles, Suspension and Steering, Brakes and Engine Performance. This program also includes on-the-job internship training experiences in Toyota dealerships. Student club activities may be an integral part of student learning in this program. 


UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
The State of Florida requires students to meet a basic skills requirement prior to program completion. The basic skills grade levels for this program are: Mathematics 10.0, Language 10.0, Reading 10.0.

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School Graduate/GED
  • Instructor interview
  • Submit and pass a drug test (see below)
  • No felony convictions (see below)
  • A valid Florida driver's license
  • Proof of less than 8 points on the applicant's driving record (see below)
  • Academic Scores of 10.0 in reading, math and language
  • If a foreign or non-resident student, he/she must possess a valid work authorization card
  • Complete a MFT 101 class

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER:
College credit may be available for ASE certification.


JOB TRAINING INCLUDES: Occupational Completion Points (OCP)
An OCP is an exit point prior to program completion; referred to as a leaver with marketable skills that is documented to an occupation/job title (Dictionary of Occupational Titles-DOT or an Industry identified occupational/job title).

Local employers have verified that the range of wages that can be reasonably expected by students who enter this field upon completion of the program is:

From $25,000 annually to $30,000 annually
(Based on year-round, full time employment)


OCP A: Automotive Lube Technician (Inclusive)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the equipment skills and safety regulation

OCP B: Advanced Maintenance Technician (Inclusive)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in routine maintenance and consumer services
OCP C: Engine Repair Technician (165 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in engine theory and repairs
  • Cylinder head and valve train diagnosis and repair
  • Engine block diagnosis and repair
  • Lubrication and cooling systems diagnosis and repairs
  • Remove and reinstall engine assemble front wheel drive and rear wheel drive.
OCP D: Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Technician (195 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation and servicing of automatic transmisssion/transaxle
  • Transmisssion and transaxle maintenance and adjustment
  • In-vehicle transmission and transaxle repair
  • Off-vehicle transmisssion and transaxle repair
  • Oil pump and converter
  • Gear train, shafts, bushings and case
  • Friction and reaction units

OCP E: Manual Drivetrain & Axle Technician (195 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation and servicing of manual and drive trains and axles ·Transmission diagnosis and repair
  • Transaxle diagnosis and repair
  • Drive and half shaft universal and constant-velocity (CV) joint diagnosis and repair
  • Rear axle diagnosis and repair; ring and pinion gears and differential case assembly
  • Limited slip differential
  • Four-wheel drive/All-wheel drive component diagnosis and repair
OCP F: Automotive Suspension & Steering Technician (195 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of steering, suspension and wheel systems
  • Suspension systems diagnosis and repair; front suspensions

  • Wheel bearing and shock absorber service
  • Wheel alignment diagnosis, adjustment, and repair
  • Wheel and tire diagnosis and repair
OCP G: Automotive Brake System Technician (195 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation and servicing of automotive brake system
  • Drum brake diagnosis and repair
  • Disc brake diagnosis and repair
  • Power assist units diagnosis and repair
  • Parking brake and brake warning systems diagnosis and repair
  • Anti-lock brake system
OCP H: Automotive Electrical/Electronic System Technician (435 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in diagnosing/troubleshooting electrical/electronic components related to power train
  • Battery diagnosis and service
  • Starting system diagnosis and repair
  • Charging system diagnosis and repair 
  • Lighting systems diagnosis and repairs
  • Gauges, warning devices and driver information systems diagnosis and repair
  • Horn and wiper/washer diagnosis and repair
  • Accessories diagnosis and repair
OCP I: Automotive Heating & Air Conditioning Technician (195 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in heating, air conditioning and engine cooling systems
  • Refrigeration system component diagnosis and repair compressor and clutch
  • Evaporator, receiver/drier, condensor, etc.
  • Heating and engine cooling systems diagnosis and repair
  • Operating systems and related control diagnosis and repair
  • Vacuum/Mechanical
  • Automatic and semi-automatic temperature controls
  • Refrigerant recovery, recycling, and handling
OCP J: Automotive Engine Performance Technician ( Hours)

  • Fuel, air induction, and exhaust systems diagnosis and repair
