AUTOMOTIVE COLLISION REPAIR & REFINISHING

MISSION:
The mission of this program is to prepare students for employment as Automobile Body repairers.  Students may also become employed as Paint and Body Helpers, Auto Collision Estimators, Frame Repair persons, Body Repair persons and Automotive Refinishers before completing the entire program.


DESCRIPTION:
Training includes refinishing skills; sheet metal repair skills; frame and unibody squaring and aligning, use of fillers, paint systems and undercoats; related mechanical and welding skills, glass servicing and other repairs.  This program has been evaluated by the National Automotive Technical Education Foundation (NATEF) and meets the National Institute for Automotive Excellence Standards of Quality (ASE).  I-CAR has approved Mid Florida Tech as a Level II training site and I-Car certifications can be earned during the program.


UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
Mechanical and artistic aptitudes are helpful.  The State of Florida requires students to meet a basic skills requirement prior to program completion. The basic skills grade levels for this program are: Mathematics 9.0, Language 9.0, Reading 9.0.  Tools are necessary for employment.


LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER:
Students who attend a I-Car program and successfully complete the post test, earn points toward gold and platinum requirements.  Graduates may take the ASE examinations for Auto Collision.


JOB TRAINING INCLUDES: Occupational Completion Points (OCP)

OCPs provide a student with early completion training options linked to employment opportunities established by the Florida Department of Education based on the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system and accepted industry titles.

Local employers have verified that the range of wages that can be reasonably expected by students who enter this field upon completion of the program is:

From $25,000. annually to $35,000. annually

ARR0210:  PAINT AND BODY HELPER (1 of 2)    (250 Hours)

  • Demonstrate vehicle and industry knowledge, and shop and occupational safety skills
  • Prepare vehicles for repair and refinishing
  • Repair, replace and adjust outer body panels
  • Demonstrate mathematics knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrate science knowledge and skills
  • Use oral and written communication skills in creating, expressing and interpreting information and ideas

ARR0213:  PAINT AND BODY ASSISTANT (2 of 2)   (250 Hours)

  • Perform welding operations
  • Prepare surfaces for refinishing
  • Select and apply appropriate paints and finishes
  • Demonstrate language arts knowledge and skills
  • Solve problems using critical thinking skills, creativity and innovation
  • Demonstrate the importance of health, safety, and environmental management systems in organizations and their importance to organizational performance and regulatory compliance

ARR0020: AUTO COLLISION ESTIMATOR    (100 Hours)

  • Demonstrate vehicle and industry knowledge, business management, and shop and occupational safety skills
  • Prepare vehicles for repair and refinishing
  • Use information technology tools
  • Describe the importance of professional ethics and legal responsibilities
  • Demonstrate personal money-management concepts, procedures, and strategies

Collision

ARR0313:  STURCTURAL DAMAGE ANALYSIS (LOCAL TITLE) (150 Hours)

  • Demonstrate vehicle and industry knowledge, business management, and shop and occupational safety skills
  • Prepare surfaces for refinishing
  • Maintain and operate spray equipment
  • Select and apply appropriate paints and finishes
  • Finish defects, causes, and cures.

ARR0127:  AUTOMOTIVE REFINISHING    (325 Hours)

  • Demonstrate vehicle and industry knowledge, business management, and shop and occupational safety skills
  • Prepare surfaces for refinishing
  • Select and apply appropriate paints and finishes
  • Maintain and operate spray equipment
  • Finish defects, causes, and cures.

ARR0240: AUTO BODY REPAIRER      (325 Hours)

  • Prepare vehicles for repair and refinishing
  • Repair, replace, and adjust outer body panels 
  • Perform welding operations
  • ·Prepare metal parts and panels for finishing
  • Prepare and apply body fillers ·Perform miscellaneous repairs
  • Repair fiberglass and plastic components
