PRIVATE SECURITY OFFICER

Total Hours: 40 Hours
MISSION:
The mission of this program is to prepare
students for employment as private security officers.
It prepares the individual to meet certification requirements
for unarmed security officer and entry-level security
officers, and occupations that require security licensing
in accordance with Florida Statute 493.
DESCRIPTION:
This program focuses on broad, transferable skills, stresses understanding of all aspects of the private security industry, and demonstrates such elements of the industry as planning, management, finance, technical and production skills, underlying principles of technology, labor issues, community issues, and health, safety and environmental issues.
UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 18 years of age, not attending high
school
- Pass the written exam at the conclusion of the course
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER:
This course prepares individuals for class "D" certification.
There is an additional requirement of 16 hours for re-certification
within two years of the issuance of the initial license
JOB TRAINING INCLUDES: Occupational Completion
Points (OCP)
OCPs provide a student with early completion training options
linked to employment opportunities established by the Florida
Department of Education based on the Standard Occupational Classification
(SOC) system and accepted industry titles.

by students who enter this field upon completion of the program

OCP A: Private Security Officer (40 Hours)
Completion of OCP A is achieved when both A and
B Courses are completed
Course A - 24 Hours:
- Understand the requirements
of Chapter 493, F.S., and SN-1, F.A.C., regulating the private
security industry in Florida
- Understand Chapter 776, F.S., and
the legal authority and liability for security actions involving
the use of force
- Apply basic first aid and Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR) techniques
- Conduct emergency procedures
- Understand the importance of ethics and professional conduct
- Demonstrate patrol techniques
- Make observations and write
reports concerning security incidents
- Conduct security
duties regarding fire detection, suppression and life safety
- Perform crime and accident prevention techniques
- Perform
crime and accident scene protection
- Identify entrepreneurship
opportunities in the private security industry
- Identify
entrepreneurship opportunities in the private security industry
- Demonstrate employability skills in the private security
industry
Course B - 16 Hours:
- Understand
