FIRE OFFICER I

MISSION:
The mission of this program is to prepare students for employment
as first level supervisors in a fire agency.
DESCRIPTION:
The fire officer program content includes, but is not limited
to, an understanding of principles of supervision, training methods,
fire inspection practices, fire protection systems, fire suppression
tactics, and hazardous materials. The Program consists of seven
course specified by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.
All courses must be completed in any order, to be eligible to
participate in the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training qualification
testing.
UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
To be accepted into the program:
- A person must have completed the certification
for a Fire Fighter or a Volunteer Fire Fighter by the Bureau
of Fire Standards and Training. Person having received one
or both of these certifications prior to July 1, 1998
shall be evaluated on documented and demonstrated certification
- Other persons requesting or required to participate
in one or more parts of the program shall be accepted on an
individual basis
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER:
This program prepares students for the qualification examination
in accordance with the requirements of the Bureau of Fire Standards
and Training.
JOB TRAINING INCLUDES: Occupational Completion
Points (OCP)
OCPs provide a student with early completion training options
linked to employment opportunities established by the Florida
Department of Education based on the Standard Occupational Classification
(SOC) system and accepted industry titles.
OCP A: Fire Fighter I (225 Hours)
- Initial introduction to the skills and subjects in the certification
requirements for a Fire Fighter. Limited amount of time will
be available to practice each skill in class. Upon successful
complete of the training, the student can be certified to the
Bureau of Fire Standards and Training as being eligible to
take the Basic Volunteer Fire Fighter test.
OCP B: Fire Officer (328 Hours)
- The student will apply the principals of leadership and management
to the fire station situation
- The student will understand the principals of chemistry, organic
and inorganic, in relationship to the hazardous materials incident
in the community
- The student will be able to apply standard policy and procedures
to the mitigation of the hazardous materials incident in the community
- The student will be able to organize, develop and present fire
fighting skills and subjects for which materials have already developed
to other Fire Fighter
- The tactics and use of apparatus,
manpower, waster and resources on an emergency scene
will be understood and applied to standard scenarios
- The
understanding and knowledge of the procedures of Fire Prevention
inspection, codes and code enforcement will be demonstrated by
each student
- The full range of fixed protection systems, fire fighting and
detection, will be understood by each student
