FIRE INSTRUCTOR

MISSION:
The mission of this program is to prepare students for certification and employment as Fire Instructors.


DESCRIPTION:
The Fire Instructor program content includes, but is not limited to, an understanding of adult learning, conducting, and evaluating an active training group; presentations, leading discussions; facilitating structured activities, promoting team learning, assessing and preparing lectures.


UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
To be accepted into the program:

  • A person must have completed the certification for a Fire Fighter or a Volunteer Fire Fighter by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training
  • A person must have six (6) years of fire service experience

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER:
The Bureau of Fire Standards and Training (BFST) is the certifying agency.


JOB TRAINING INCLUDES:
Local employers have verified that the range of wages that can be reasonably expected by students who enter this field upon completion of the program is:

From $38,000. annually to $46,000. annually
(Based on year-round, full-time employment)

  • Sequence active training activities
  • Provide for back-on-the-job application
  • Plan active training programs
