FIRE INSTRUCTOR

MISSION:
The mission of this program is to prepare students for certification
and employment as Fire Instructors.
DESCRIPTION:
The Fire Instructor program content includes, but is not limited
to, an understanding of adult learning, conducting, and evaluating
an active training group; presentations, leading discussions;
facilitating structured activities, promoting team learning,
assessing and preparing lectures. The Florida Bureau of Fire
Standards and Training (BFST) is the certifying agency.
UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
To be accepted into the program:
- A person must have completed the certification
for a Fire Fighter or a Volunteer Fire Fighter by the Bureau
of Fire Standards and Training
- A person must have six (6) years of fire service
experience
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER:
This program prepares students for the qualification testing
of the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.
JOB TRAINING INCLUDES: Occupational Completion
Points (OCP)
OCPs provide a student with early completion training options
linked to employment opportunities established by the Florida
Department of Education based on the Standard Occupational Classification
(SOC) system and accepted industry titles.
OCP A: Fire Instructor I (40 Hours)
- Understand adult learning strategies and concepts
- Begin
an active training program
- Gain leadership of the training
group
- Give presentations and lead discussions
- Facilitate
structured activities and promote team learning
- Conclude and
evaluate an active training program
OCP B: Fire Instructor II (40 Hours)
- Assess the need for training and the participants
- Develop
active training objectives
- Create opening exercises
- Prepare
effective lectures
- Find alternative methods to lecturing
- Use
experiential learning approaches
- Design active training activities
- Sequence active training activities
- Provide for back-on-the-job
application
- Plan active training programs
