MISSION:
The mission of this program is to prepare students for employment as Machinists.  Students may also become employed as Machinist Helpers, Machine Operators and Machine Setup Operators before completing the entire program.  Completion of the program will prepare students in Computer Numerical Controls (CNC)


DESCRIPTION:
The training includes manual operation of lathes, mills, grinders, EDM and the programming and operation of CNC machine tools. Also included are shop mathematics, blueprint reading, bench work, precision measurement, layout and inspection, communication, and safe and efficient work practices.  Student club activities may be an integral part of student learning in this program.


UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
Tools may be required for employment.  The State of Florida requires students to meet a basic skills requirement prior to program completion. The basic skills grade levels for this program are:

Mathematics 9.0, Language 8.0, Reading 9.0

JOB TRAINING INCLUDES: Occupational Completion Points (OCP)
OCPs provide a student with early completion training options linked to employment opportunities established by the Florida Department of Education based on the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system and accepted industry titles.

Local employers have verified that the range of wages that can be reasonably expected by students who enter this field upon completion of the program is:

From $24,000 annually to $26,000 annually

OCP C: Machine Setup Operator (450 Hours)
  • Apply blueprint specifications to production
  • Perform basic precision-measuring operations
  • Sharpen machining tools
  • Operate lathes
  • Operate milling machines
  • Operate grinding machines
  • Solve advanced job-related math problems
  • Interpret blueprints and machine operations
  • Demonstrate inspection methods
  • Operate a Computerized-Numerical-Control  (CNC) machine Operate and set up electrical discharge machine (EDM)
  • Set up and operate a Computerized-Numerical-Control (CNC) machine
  • Use computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM)
OCP D: Machinist (300 Hours)
