COMPUTER SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY - CENTER OF EXCELLENCE

MISSION:
The mission of this program is to prepare students for employment as Digital Electronics Technicians.  Students may also become employed as Help Desk Specialists, Level II PC Electronic Installers, Computer Support Specialists and Field Service Technicians before completing the entire program.


DESCRIPTION:
The training includes configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing computer systems and networks systems.  This program provides the knowledge and skills needed to enter the computer/network support field.  Program coverage includes operating systems, network fundamentals, hardware installation, upgrading, and troubleshooting.  Preparation for industry recognized certifications are an integral part of the program.


UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
The State of Florida requires students to meet a basic skills requirement prior to program completion. The basic skills grade levels for this program are:

Mathematics 10.0, Language 9.0 and Reading 9.0.

Also, good color vision essential. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.


LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER:
Graduates are eligible to take the A+ Certification and Network + Examination


JOB TRAINING INCLUDES: Occupational Completion Points (OCP)
OCPs provide a student with early completion training options linked to employment opportunities established by the Florida Department of Education based on the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system and accepted industry titles.

Local employers have verified that the range of wages that can be reasonably expected by students who enter this field upon completion of the program is:

From $20,800 annually to $27,040 annually

OCP A: Level I Support Technician/Help Desk Specialist (450 Hours)

OCP B: Level II PC Electronics Installer (150 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in soldering and basic laboratory practices
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic DC circuits
  • Demonstrate appropriate understanding of basic math
  • Demonstrate appropriate understanding of basic science
  • Demonstrate proficiency in AC circuits
OCP C: Computer Support Specialist/PC Technician (300 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in electronic information exchange
  • Demonstrate proficiency in site requirements and considerations
OCP D: Level I LAN Technician/Field Service Tech (300 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer systems architecture
  • Demonstrate proficiency in peripheral equipment
OCP E: Digital Electronics Technician (450 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Digital Circuits
  • Demonstrate proficiency in fundamental microprocessors
  • Demonstrate an understanding of entrepreneurship
