MISSION:
Our mission is to provide educational opportunities to all students in order that they may be equipped in the academic and technical fields of Printing and Graphic Communications to help meet industry’s need for capable employees and meet the students’ personal need for employment.


DESCRIPTION:
This program prepares students for employment in the Graphic Arts field. Training includes computer electronic pre-press QuarkXpress, Adobe Illustrator and Photo Shop, manual and electronic stripping, basic camera, plate making, small press and duplicator operations, cutter operation, and safe and efficient work practices.


UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
The State of Florida requires that students meet a basic skills requirement prior to program completion. The basic skills grade levels for this program are:

Mathematics 9.0, Language 9.0, Reading 9.0


LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER:
Industry certifications/licensures associated with this program may include: Adobe Certified Associate (Photoshop, Adobe Certified Expert (Acrobat), Adobe Certified Expert (Illustrator) and Adobe Certified Expert (InDesign).


JOB TRAINING INCLUDES: Occupational Completion Points (OCP)

OCPs provide a student with early completion training options linked to employment opportunities established by the Florida Department of Education based on the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system and accepted industry titles.

Local employers have verified that the range of wages that can be reasonably expected by students who enter this field upon completion of the program is:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in image assembly/plate making
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing basic offset press operation
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic finishing/binding operations
  • Demonstrate appropriate communication, math and employability skills
GRA0013: Process Camera Operator (300 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing basic film assembly and plate making competencies
GRA0014: Layout Designer/Planner (450 Hours)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic electronic imaging competencies Demonstrate proficiency in the use of type and typography
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using page layout operations
  • Demonstrate proficiency in scanning operations
  • Demonstrate an understanding of a vector base graphics program
