STRUCTURAL STEELWORK APPRENTICESHIP

MID FLORIDA IRONWORKERS JATC

MISSION:
The mission of this program is to provide a working relationship between an employer and an employee during which time the apprentice obtains the necessary skills for employment in the Ironworker trade.


DESCRIPTION:
This apprenticeship program requires the apprentice to be employed by a participating employer/sponsor and enrolled in a formal program registered and approved by the US Department of Labor and the Florida Department of Education.  Apprentices, in addition to employment, are required to participate in structured part-time training-related coursework specifically aligned with the apprenticeship standards approved by the above state and federal agencies.



UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Physically capable of performing trade work
  • Photo ID or driver's license
  • Birth certificate
  • Social Security card
  • Provide two letters of Recommendation
  • High School Diploma, GED

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER:
When they complete the training program, the apprentices are advanced to "Journeyman" status.


JOB TRAINING INCLUDES: Occupational Completion Point (OCP)

OCPs provide a student with early completion training options linked to employment opportunities established by the Florida Department of Education based on the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system and accepted industry titles.

Local employers have verified that the range of wages that can be reasonably expected by students who enter this field upon completion of the first year is:

From $25,000. annually to $35,000. annually
(Based on year-round, full-time employment)


First Year:  Trade Safety & OSHA, Reinforcing Steel 
  • 300 Hours Classroom Related Training 
  • 1700 Hours On-The-Job Training   
Second Year:  Structural 1 & 2 Rigging, Ornamental 1, 2, 3
  • 300 Hours Classroom Related Training
  • 1700 On-The-Job Training     
SECOND YEAR: Structural 1 & 2 Rigging, Ornamental 1, 2, 3
  • 300 Hours Classroom-Related Training
  • 1700 Hours On-The-Job Training
THIRD YEAR: Blueprints
  • 300 Hours Classroom Related Training
  • 1700 Hours On-The-Job Training   
FOURTH YEAR: Welding Burning & Plasma Cutting

  • 700 Hours On-The-Job Training
