DESCRIPTION: The content includes skills to operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment such as Cranes, Dozer, Forktruck, Grader, Backhoe, and other related equipment. This apprenticeship program requires the apprentice to be employed by a participating employer/sponsor and enrolled in a formal program registered and approved by the US Department of labor and the Florida Department of Education. Apprentices, in addition to employment, are required to participate in structured part-time training-related coursework specifically aligned with the apprenticeship standards approved by the above state and federal agencies.
UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Physically capable of performing trade work
- Have a valid Florida driver's license
- Have a Birth certificate
- Provide a Social Security card
- Have two letters of recommendation
- The State of Florida requires students to meet basic skills
requirements prior to program completion
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER:
Upon completion of the program, the student becomes a "Journeyman"
in the trade.
JOB TRAINING INCLUDES:Occupational Completion Point (OCP)
OCPs provide a student with early completion training options linked to employment opportunities established by the Florida Department of Education based on the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system and accepted industry titles.
Local employers have verified that the range of wages that can be reasonably expected by students who enter this field upon completion of the program is:
From $25,000 annually to $38,000 annually

OCP A: Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician 1st Year
- Demonstrate understanding of procedures
- Demonstrate understanding of operation and maintenance of mechanical systems and engines
- Demonstrate appropriate communication skills
- Demonstrate employability skills ·Demonstrate an understanding of entrepreneurship
OCP B: Tractor Operator 2nd Year
- Operate pneumatic and crawler type tractor with attachments
- Demonstrate appropriate math skills
- Demonstrate appropriate understanding of basic science
OCP C: Off Road Equipment Operator 3rd Year
- Operate a back hoe
- Operate a motor grader
- Utilize utility construction equipment as applicable
OCP D: Crane Operator 4th Year
