ELECTRICITY APPRENTICESHIP (FEAT)

MISSION:
According to the Standards of Apprenticeship: "The objectives of the Florida Electrical Apprenticeship & Training, Inc. (FEAT) Apprenticeship Program shall be for the Apprentice to have acquired the ability to intelligently perform job assignments as an Apprentice and develop proper knowledge essential to high level performance in the occupation of electrician."


DESCRIPTION:
FEAT is a 4-year electrical apprenticeship program.  Apprenticeship is an Industry/Educational partnership providing training to over 100 electrical contractors.



UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Proof of employment by a participating FEAT employer
  • The State of Florida requires students to meet a basic skills requirement prior to program completion

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER:
All students are registered with the Department of Labor through the Department of Education.  Books, tools, etc, may be  required.  Upon completion of this apprenticeship program, the student meets the criteria to qualify to take the Electrical Journeyman's exam.


JOB TRAINING INCLUDES: Occupational Completion Points (OCP)
OCPs provide a student with early completion training options linked to employment opportunities established by the Florida Department of Education based on the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system and accepted industry titles.

Local employers have verified that the range of wages that can be reasonably expected by students who enter this field upon completion of the program is:

From $30,744 annually to $40,000 annually
(Based on year-round, full-time employment)


FIRST YEAR: Electrician Helper
  • Identify safe working conditions at the laboratory and workplace and observe safety precautions
  • Demonstrate an understanding of basic direct-Current (DC) electrical-circuit skills
  • Demonstrate an understanding of basic direct-Current (DC) electrical-circuit skills
  • Demonstrate appropriate communication skills
  • Apply electricity-related basic math
  • Demonstrate an understanding of basic electricity
  • Demonstrate employability skills
  • Read and interpret basic electric codes
  • Demonstrate positive customer-relations skills
SECOND YEAR: Residential Electrician
  • Demonstrate proficiency in electrical math problems
  • Demonstrate alternating-current (AC) circuit skills
  • Install residential wiring
THIRD YEAR: Commercial Electrician
  • Demonstrate proficiency in commercial wiring
  • Demonstrate specialized electrical skills
FOURTH YEAR: Industrial Electrician
  • Demonstrate competency in industrial wiring
  • Demonstrate competency in transformers
  • Demonstrate competency in AC and DC motors
  • Demonstrate competency in electrical and electronic control circuits and equipment
