ADULT BASIC EDUCATION (ABE)

MISSION:
The mission of this program is to provide instruction designed to improve the employability of the state's workforce through instruction in Mathematics, Reading, Language and workforce readiness skills at grade level equivalency 0-8.9.


DESCRIPTION:
The Adult Basic Education program is designed to provide adults with sufficient basic education to enable them to benefit from job training and retraining programs, and to obtain and retain productive employment. This program is divided into Literacy Completion Points (LCP). Progress through levels may be measured by approved standardized tests or documentation of mastery of competencies. Multi-levels of instruction are provided in mathematics, reading and language.


UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS:
A student must demonstrate proficiency in 100% of the standards to earn a literacy completion point (LCP). It is understood that each student learns at his or her individual pace and there will be students who successfully complete the program or attain their educational goals in fewer or more hours than what is recommended.

A Literacy Completion Point is the attainment of academic or workforce readiness skills that qualify the participant for further basic education, vocational education or employment.

LCP A:  Mathematics — Beginning ABE Literacy — Level  0.0 – 1.9 (450 Hours)
  • Demonstrate pre-computational skills
  • Show awareness of ways numbers are represented and used in the real world
  • Demonstrate reasonable proficiency in computing addition and subtraction problems
  • Measure quantities in the real world and uses the measures to solve problems

LCP B:  Mathematics — Beginning Basic Education — Level 2.0-3.9 (450 Hours)

LCP C:  Mathematics — Low Intermediate Basic Education — Level 4.0-5.9 (300 Hours)

  • Demonstrate proficiency in number sense, concepts and operations involving fractions
