EXIT OPTION
GED Exit Option is a dropout prevention program offered by the
American Council on Education in five states, including Florida.
Orange County Public Schools provides the program in its Career
and Technical Centers. It may be an option for age-appropriate
seniors, who are not able to graduate in the traditional way
to receive a high school diploma. Any student interested in the
program should contact a counselor to determine if this is a
viable option. The referred students must pass an initial screening
that includes a practice GED and the Test of Adult Basic Education.
Once the student is admitted into the program, he/she must pass
the FCAT and the GED to document his/her skills in pertinent
areas. Furthermore, each student must obtain marketable skills
by enrolling in a technical program or, in some cases, on-the-job-training.
If the student is successful in all three areas, he/she is awarded
a standard high school diploma by the home school.
Dual Enrollment and GED Exit Option students enroll thorough
an orientation and selection process initiated at their home
high school.
